When reviewers cannot trace a market size figure to its source, that figure becomes an unverifiable claim. Vague attributions like 'per industry research report' have the same problem: any evidence reviewers cannot independently look up and confirm is treated as low-credibility.
The core issue is not that the number is wrong — it is that the reviewer cannot independently verify where it came from. Government-approved statistics are different: the issuing agency, survey name, publication date, and URL are all part of the public record, so any third party can look up and cross-check the cited figure directly.

KOSIS is a statistics portal operated by the National Data Agency (formerly Statistics Korea). It covers over 900 government-approved statistical datasets from roughly 400 agencies across 30 fields — economy, society, and environment — including retail & wholesale trade, services, mining & manufacturing, and construction, all of which are relevant to startups.
KOSIS provides an Open API in JSON, XML, and XLS formats for external integration. The Industry KOSIS Statistics tab in OpenSeed reports uses this integration to surface the statistical tables that match the industry classification entered in your business plan.

Open the Industry KOSIS Statistics tab in your OpenSeed report. A list of relevant statistical tables appears based on the industry classification in your business plan. Follow these steps:
- In your OpenSeed report, open the Industry KOSIS Statistics tab and confirm your industry
- Click the linked KOSIS statistical table — navigate to your category across the 30 fields (retail & wholesale, services, mining & manufacturing, construction, etc.)
- On the table view screen, click the 'Address/Source' button → copy the URL
- Note the issuing agency, survey name, publication date, and table name shown on the view screen
- Enter the citation in your business plan body or footnotes using the format below

According to KOSIS usage guidelines, six fields must be included when citing any statistic. If any field is missing, the original source can no longer be located and the citation's verifiability drops to zero.
| Field | Example |
|---|---|
| Issuing agency | Statistics Korea |
| Survey name | Retail and Wholesale Trade Survey |
| Publication date | 2024 |
| Access date | 2026.10.15 |
| Table name | Number of Establishments and Employees by Industry |
| URL | https://kosis.kr/statisticsList/... |
Example citation: 'The number of retail and wholesale trade establishments in Korea totals XX ten-thousand (Statistics Korea, Retail and Wholesale Trade Survey, 2024, accessed: 2026.10.15, https://kosis.kr/...).' This format must appear verbatim in the business plan body or a footnote for the citation to be verifiable. Clicking 'Address/Source' on the table view screen copies the table's unique permalink directly.

AI review of business plans evaluates the logic and completeness of market analysis against reviewer criteria. A key factor is whether each market size figure is linked to a source that any third party can independently verify.
When OpenSeed AI review examines the market size section, figures without citations or figures that cannot be traced to an original source are flagged as 'unclear evidence.' Conversely, when a KOSIS government-approved statistic is cited with all six required fields present, the transparency rating for that figure improves.
One important caveat applies to automated citation evaluation. AI can consistently check citation format and classify source types — but it cannot always reliably verify whether a given statistical table actually exists or whether a figure matches the original table. Final cross-checking must be done by opening the KOSIS source directly.
